mum with two children on a long bike

March 2011 and I FINALLY got kitted out so I can cycle with my two children. My children were  2 years 10 months and five, when I found a workable solution- I lost good cycling time figuring it out! It took time thinking about possibilities, researching different bikes and different options, even considering designing a new bike for four people!

What I write here is what I wished I had found on the internet during my research phase.

I can’t give detailed information on different models and in any case the market is forever changing, but I can give the principles of what can work. The solution I am suggesting is not all based on experience, there is a degree of extrapolation here, so proceed with some caution and judgement.

I am suggesting a way to cycling, from having one child at 4 months old to two children aged around 7 and 5.

I hope the information gives you some more things to consider – I’m using two pages:  1.”solutions” for the things that have worked for us (and those I assume would have worked) and 2. “disregarded” – some of the ideas we had which we decided against. If you have more children or very different ages then this may be of limited help – but check out the info in “disregarded” which may be of use.

Happy cycling!
